A Patient's Perspective on How to Live Well with Autoimmune Disease

About Me

About One Autoimmune Journey

Hello! I’m Tina! I have created this website to share my personal experiences with autoimmune disease and chronic illness as well as refer others to products, services, and/or programs that I have found to be helpful in managing my own symptoms.

Even in trying times, I feel it is still important to stay positive as much as we can. We all are faced with certain challenges in our lives and I feel we can support each other, adjust our lifestyles according to the limitations we have, and do so in a positive manner. Even though there are times when life gets hard, it's important to remember who is right there by our side.

Throughout my experience and my journey, I have been formally diagnosed with the following conditions:  Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Fibromyalgia, Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) Type II, Endometriosis, Premature Ovarian Failure, Peri-Menopause, Crohn’s Disease, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Gastroparesis, and Scoliosis.  I also have hormone and adrenal insufficiencies as well as food allergies.

I have had a total of five surgeries on my right knee/ankle/leg for a torn meniscus, peroneal neuropathy, and causalgia of the right lower extremity. I have had a cholecystectomy (removal of gull bladder), umbilical hernia repair, and hysterectomy (at only 31 years of age).  I also have had cataract surgery with the implantation of multi-focal lenses and am looking at a spinal nerve block and possible Dorsal Root Ganglion (DRG) stimulator implant in the near future.

It feels like I have “tried it all” – whether it be diet changes, physical therapy, or enough supplements to fuel a horse – but I’ve always felt like I was lacking in some way.  I was constantly exhausted, fueled by sugar and caffeine, and totally dependent on unhealthy meals and habits.  It wasn’t until I realized how important diet, nutrition, and movement are to calming these conditions that things really started to change.

I know what it’s like to struggle.  I know how hard life with health challenges can be and how lost one can feel when juggling multiple doctors’ appointments, medications, and conditions.  I’ve been through this process more times than I can count and now, I have the ability to share some valuable resources with those that are just beginning.  Hopefully, through my writing, I can help bridge the gap between the harsh reality of managing our multi-faceted symptoms and conventional medical care.  We can learn to live well with health challenges and stay positive through illness!
